Frequently Ask Questions

Choosing the right school comes with questions.

We’ve gathered some of the most common ones here to help you better understand Prairie Rose Schoolhouse.

What ages do you serve?

Prairie Rose Schoolhouse serves elementary and middle school-aged children. We keep a small, mixed-age group to encourage collaboration, mentorship, and community.

How are academics taught?

Academic skills are taught directly and integrated into real-life projects. Children learn math through measuring, budgeting, and building; literacy through reading, writing, and documentation; science through direct interaction with the natural world.

How are students assessed?

Assessment is relationship-based and observational. Progress is shared through regular communication, work samples, portfolios, and narrative feedback rather than standardized testing or letter grades.

FAQ for Parents

According to Education Reform Now:

Microschools are small, innovative, community-based learning environments that serve a limited number of students - often anywhere from 5-100. They are designed to be more flexible personalized, and innovative than traditional schools, often blending elements of homeschooling, private schooling, and modern educational approaches found in well-funded, high-quality traditional public schools.

What are Microschools?

What does a typical day look like?

Days are structured around a balance of academic learning (reading, writing, math, social studies and science), hands-on projects (gardening, animals, cooking, building, arts and crafts), and outdoor exploration.

How much time is spent outdoors?

Outdoor time is a core part of our program. Children spend time outside daily, across seasons, engaging in meaningful work and exploration.

Is this aligned with Colorado requirements?
